27/01/2010; Letter from our Church Secretary
Dear Friends,
I wrote last evening to the members of Fivehead Baptist Church but now share this letter with all the Church family-
TO THE MEMBERS OF FIVEHEAD BAPTIST CHURCH
Firstly, thank you for attending the Special Church Meeting last night your honesty and openess with each other when we met to consider the calling of our prospective Pastor to Fivehead. Although it was a long evening, I hope that every member felt that they could be fully engaged and heard by all others present and that the Holy Spirit was certainly present in our deliberations.
The ballot resulted in a narrow mandate for our prospective Pastor to be called and Paul Douglass contacted him last evening to report the outcome. Overnight, our prospective Pastor has prayerfully considered, but feels that he should not accept the invitation extended by the Deacons as although the invitation was carried, there remained approximately one third of the members present feeling unsure or voting against.
Although it would be perfectly possible for our prospective Pastor to come, in such cases where there is not a significant majority or unanimity, those considering their calling would feel uneasy that their call might not be right.
Whilst I know there will be great disappointment for many, I ask that you continue to seek Gods will for us as a Fellowship and recognise that the process of prayerfully and earnestly seeking together will be honoured by Him when the time is right. Simon has added his thoughts below and I hope that they will help us all come to terms with the outcome. Let us continue to love one another and fix our eyes upon Jesus.
Adrian
Journeying with God and seeking His will is not always easy either as an individual or as a church; and your prospective Pastor's decision not to accept the call offered by the Church Meeting will bring mixed feelings.
As a church you have acted with a gospel spirit and integrity to date, especially in the church meeting, and I would want to encourage you to continue in that way and ask you to hold on to Jeremiah 29:11
"For I know the plans I have for you,....plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
I look forward to being amongst you again soon
